Our home

One of the important issues to organise is your home. When you, just like us, have your own house, you have two options; you can either sell or let the house. We are very lucky with our house, it is situated on a great spot and where we would love to stay. We therefore decided not to sell our house; it will be let.

To organise this we hired a broker. We also placed some adds on the internet ourselves.

Some tips when you let your house:

Always make a tenancy agreement mentioning the date on which the rent ends. An agreement can be made by your broker, but you can also make it yourself. As soon as both the owners and the tenants have signed the agreement it is legal, also when you have made it yourself. On the internet you can find several examples of agreements.

When you do not know the tenants or when you doubt their solvency, you can have this checked by your broker.

As letter, you have more rights and can easier give notice, when you let your house (partitially) furnished, or when you do not rent out one or more rooms. At least this is the case in Holland

Make clear agreements and write them down.

Make a description of your house and everything you leave behind (if possible with pictures). This way it is clear what is yours, what the tenants are allowed to use and in what shape they have to leave the house when they move out.

Make sure the tenants know who to contact in case of questions or emergencies. In our case they can contact our fathers.
